Circe Lady and Tiger

Circe Lady and Tiger by Paal Anand, Acrylic Encapsulated Carbon on Archival Cotton, 2024

Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, Canada. Acrylic Encapsulated Carbon on Archival Cotton, 2024. 198x111cm.

An “other worldly” wielder of potions and spells from Homer’s Odyssey, Circe lays in divine composure beside her magnificent tiger companion, both bathed in supple light that dances between her skin and the beast’s face. I wanted to find the electric tension between beauty and danger, civilization and wildness, as Circe’s serene expression masks ancient transformative power with her wild feline companion’s demure and docile composure—creating an otherworldly sanctuary where myth and reality blur.

Paal Anand is a visual storyteller and conceptual artist who is inspired by the fantastical and the surreal. He was named Artist of the Year 2025 by the Fondazione Effetto Arte, designated as a Graphis Master and recently inducted into the Arte Laguna World Hall of Fame.
