London Art Biennale

1. About these terms

The London Art Biennale is organised by Gagliardi Design Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (number 01346662), whose registered office is at 2nd Floor, Unicorn House, Station Close, Potters Bar, Hertfordshire EN6 1TL. Our administrative office is at 509 King’s Road, London SW10 0TX. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Gagliardi Design Limited, and “you” means the artist submitting work or the person using this website.

By submitting work, making a payment or donation, or using this website, you agree to these terms. Please read them with our privacy policy, which explains how we handle personal information.

2. Submitting work

Submissions are open to artists of any nationality and at any stage of their career, with no theme or restriction of medium. Artists who have exhibited in previous editions are welcome to submit again. The VIII Edition will take place in Chelsea, London in autumn 2027; its dates and venue will be announced in due course.

The submission fee is £36 per submission, paid on this website through our payment provider, Stripe. Once payment is complete you are given a submission number, which is also sent to you by email in your Submission Certificate. During the opening period of the call, each submission fee allows 2 works to be entered for selection. The opening period may close at any time without further notice; submissions paid for before it closes keep the number of works shown on their certificate.

Works are uploaded on Artemisia (artemisia.art), quoting your submission number. Artemisia is an independent platform, and your use of it is also subject to its own terms. Until the call closes, you may replace any of your works at no further cost. The closing date will be announced on this website and sent to every artist who has submitted.

By submitting, you confirm that you are the author of each work entered, that you hold the rights needed to submit and exhibit it, and that its details are accurate.

3. Fees and refunds

The submission fee is the only fee payable to enter and, if selected, to exhibit. It is non-refundable, whatever the outcome of selection. If you are charged twice by mistake, or if we cancel the edition altogether and do not reschedule it, we will refund the fees concerned.

4. Selection

Every work entered is considered by the selection panel on its merits, without regard to the artist’s previous exposure or career. Entering a work does not guarantee its selection, and the panel’s decisions are final. Results are sent to every artist who submits, whether or not their work has been selected.

5. Images of your work

You keep the copyright in your work. By submitting, you allow us to reproduce images of it on the Biennale’s website and social media and in press or promotional material connected with the exhibition, with your name credited. Works may be published during the submission and selection period; publication at that stage does not mean a work has been selected. If your work is selected, you also agree to its reproduction in the official catalogue for that edition.

6. If your work is selected

Delivery dates, the venue address and detailed guidance are sent to selected artists. Transport to the exhibition and back is arranged and paid for by the artist. However it arrives, every work is unpacked and displayed by our team at no charge; complex works, or three-dimensional works in several elements, are installed by the artist. Optional services such as stretching and framing are charged as set out on the shipping page.

We take reasonable care of works in our keeping. Works are not insured by us, and we recommend that artists insure their own work in transit and while it is on display.

7. Sales

Whether a work is offered for sale is entirely at the artist’s discretion. On works sold during the exhibition we retain a commission of 35% plus VAT. We handle the sale and deliver the work to the buyer, and pay the artist the balance once the buyer’s payment has cleared.

8. After the exhibition

Unsold work can be collected by hand, or by a shipper of the artist’s choosing. We can also quote to repack a work and ship it back. Collection must be made, or arranged, within 8 weeks of the artist being told the work is ready. Work not collected within that time is treated as donated by the artist, unless something else has been agreed with us in writing.

9. Donations

Donations made on this website are voluntary gifts to support the Biennale, received by Gagliardi Design Limited and processed by Stripe. They are not charitable donations and do not qualify for Gift Aid. If you make a donation in error, contact us and we will refund it.

10. Using this website

The content of this website, including its text and photographs, belongs to us or to the artists and photographers concerned, and may not be reused without permission. We aim to keep the website accurate and available, but cannot guarantee that it always will be.

11. Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law, and nothing affects your statutory rights. Otherwise, we are not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable loss, and our total liability to you in connection with a submission is limited to the fees you have paid us for it.

12. Changes and governing law

We may update these terms from time to time; the version that applies to a submission is the one in force when it was paid for. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute.
