Nina Anduiza

Jacques, “The Izoard”, is the sculpture of poet, and friend of the artist, Jacques Izoard. It embodies the conscience-altering experience he felt at the Izoard pass in the Alp mountains as a young adult, a seminal moment that he named himself after, and that transformed him into becoming one of the most prolific contemporary poets of French expression. In Anduiza’s work, Jacques has come to stand as a symbol of self revelation. This sculpture is the root of a theme and body of work titled “Ritual of Passage”. Born in Houston, Texas, of Basque and Native American ancestry, Nina Anduiza is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Belgium. In her sculptures, drawings, photography and poetry, she explores the origins of consciousness and the foundations of thought, through a process that harnesses the impetus of instinct in mutually reinforcing combination with knowledge, understanding and interpretation. Always made by her own hands, her art reaches for the core of nature, oscillating between its pursued truth and our concept of truth, in search of the universality that binds all sentient beings together. Anduiza exhibits her pieces in their bare essence or combined in the form of installations, depending upon the discourse that she wishes to put forth. Her work has been distinguished by Annual Awards from the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation, and the Eben Demarest Trust, upon nomination by the National Sculpture Society (New York) and the Menil Collection (Houston).
