Send it in a tube

Shipping a stretched, framed canvas across a border is what stops most artists applying to anything abroad. Rolled in a tube, the same painting posts from almost anywhere for very little.

Work can equally arrive already mounted or framed if that is preferred. Canvases need at least 38 mm of depth to be exhibited unframed.

Stretching

Up to 100 × 100 cm Free
Longest side up to 150 cm £60
Longest side up to 200 cm £120
Longest side up to 250 cm £180

Canvases are stretched on 38 mm bars, for a gallery-standard presentation. Please leave at least 7 cm of extra canvas beyond the image on every side, so that it wraps around the bar and can be fixed at the back.

A stretched canvas is shown without a frame, so its sides are seen. For that reason we recommend painting the edges — continuing the work around the sides, or finishing them in a colour of your choosing.

For canvases larger than 250 cm on any side, please contact us before submitting.

Framing under glass

Works on paper can be sent rolled and framed here. Prices include the frame and normal glass; UV art glass and acrylic are quoted on request.

Up to 80 × 80 cm £50
Up to 120 × 120 cm £100
Larger On request

Framing canvases

Optional, and additional to stretching. Frames are made to measure and priced by the sum of the work’s dimensions in centimetres, read as pounds: a 50 × 50 cm work costs £100, a 100 × 150 cm work costs £250. Artists may upgrade to a frame of their own choosing.

Delivery

Three routes, three deadlines. The exact dates are issued to selected artists once the edition is scheduled, along with the shipping address and detailed guidance. Transport to London, and home again, is the artist’s own arrangement and cost. However it arrives, every work is unpacked, installed and taken down by our team at no charge, without the artist needing to be present. Complex works, or three-dimensional works in several elements, are installed by the artist.

  1. Work needing framing, stretching or mounting

    Gagliardi Gallery

Earliest deadline — the team needs time to prepare the work before the hang.

  2. Packed work, ready to hang, sent by carrier

    Gagliardi Gallery

Later, but still ahead of the show so everything can be unpacked and checked.

  3. Hand-delivered work, ready to hang

    The exhibition venue

Accepted on two named days only, in the weekend immediately before opening.

Afterwards

Unsold work can be collected by hand, or by a shipper of the artist’s choosing, who packs it for the journey, at no charge. Alternatively, repacking and return shipping is a paid service, which our team can quote for on request. Work sold during the show needs none of this: the Biennale delivers it to the buyer itself.

Collection must be made, or arranged, within 8 weeks of the artist being told the work is ready. Work left uncollected beyond that is treated as donated, unless something else has been agreed with the team.
