First Winter
Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, United States of America. Acrylic on canvas, 2025. 101.6×76.2cm.
This work is emblematic of the shock of a first winter, both physically and metaphorically. A mixture of loose and tight brushwork discusses the intimacy and mutual influence of an individual’s experience within the surrounding environment as the figures fade in and out of the background. There was a particular attention to how detail could foster mystery and reflect confusion. Technically, I was interested in how the slow build of acrylic layering could evoke texture and embody the slowness associated with a decline in warmth.
