In the quiet pause of 2021, when the world fell silent and time seemed to soften, my friends from cities across the world shared photos of spring blossoms. Though human plans were paused, the rhythm of the earth continued. Longing to hold onto that quiet hope, I turned to Shu embroidery. With threads as paint and a needle as my brush, I stitched a garden, one bloom at a time. The flowers are dancing in long and short stitches, French knots, neat stitches, and scroll stitches. Shu embroidery, a traditional craft rooted in Sichuan Province, is one of the four main types of Chinese embroidery.

Phoebe Yeung was born and raised in Hong Kong. She graduated from the Hong Kong PolyU with a Bachelor of Arts in graphic design. She learned Shu embroidery for ten years. Recently, she has been exploring the distinct colors of silk thread and fabric to convey messages in various creative contexts.
