Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill
Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, Greece. Oil on canvas, 2021. 80x110cm.
Petros Xenakis has created a contemporary portrait, honouring an all time classic iconic figure with a traditional painterly manner. Xenakis wishes to share with the world his devotion to classical values with an endless appreciation of the contemporary world which is the era that he lives, thinks and creates. When Xenakis is asked why this and why now, he vividly replies: “It has been claimed that time is circular and not linear and as Oscar Wild once said Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter”.
Petros Xenakis was born in 1957 in Chania. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.In 2018 he had the honor of being nominated as a regular member of the Academy of Athens . His work was included among the 66 work in exhibition organized by the Embassy of Greece in the Holy See (Vatican) in collaboration with the National Gallery on the theme: “Society of Faces – The depiction of the human form. From post-Byzantine art to modern Greek painting”.
