Comédie ou Tragédie

Comédie ou Tragédie by Nicolas Flomet, Oil on canvas, 2024

Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, France. Oil on canvas, 2024. 130x97cm.

Isn’t our life a comedy? We wear masks to play roles, to play comedy, to play tragedy. Playing a false comedy to mask the tragedies of our lives. But our masks are in movement, in mutation, appearing, disappearing, mutating, forcing us to evolve too. This mask game can grab us and end up covering us completely. Are we still masters of our lives or just puppets?

After a career as a computer engineer in Paris, Nicolas Flomet decided to refocus on his passion, art and particularly painting. After taking classes for adults at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he trained with artists Henrik Uldalen and Casey Baugh to perfect his “realistic impressionist” oil painting technique. Today, Nicolas Flomet exhibits his work in numerous Parisian salons and galleries. On these occasions, he was rewarded with several jury and public prizes.
