Rapture
Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, United States of America. Photograph on paper, 2020. 55.88×45.72cm.
This image was created at the height of the COVID pandemic. In the midst of despair, staging this photograph became an exit out of despair. I tried to offer an alternative to the distraught state of the world, hoping that the world would say yes. I tried to pay attention to the occasional door that opens between the artist and the viewer, to honor the intimacy embedded into those encounters, the rare, precious silence necessary for the act of looking, listening and understanding, the secret path linking our common experiences.
In a world where images have become another type of pollution, I am interested in creating a unique type of reality removed from the social and political unrest that have been defining our daily existence for so many years. In this light, photography is not a form of escapism, but a poetic tool employing metaphors in order to ask questions and deepen the Mystery. I have always believed in parallel universes. I hope that my images could sometimes point to the hidden portals between them.
