With a family home on the Atlantic coast and historical connections to communities commercially dependent upon the sea, the idea of this painting developed over a number of years. There is an unrelenting ferociousness to the coastline’s beauty where the powerful, methodical turbulence of the ocean meets ancient, immutable rock formations. Despite the drama, motion and threat there is a pervading sense of permanence. Our complicated and often adversarial relationship with the sea can be just as paradoxical. Here a team work diligently to limit the impact of the negligent.

Keith Gorny studied Art at Bradfield College before completing his BA at Exeter University. “While planning goes into my representational paintings I tend to work quite intuitively. I hope my paintings have rhythm and I look for subjects that will assist in accomplishing that aim. Passages of colour, fragmented brush work, tonal arrangements and strong lines of perspective are all put to purpose in achieving a sense of movement and tension”.
