Jane Munro

Crossing The Divide is a digital artwork created using the software Photoshop. The sources used are from both photography and drawings created by the artist and then combined into this single image. The image has then been printed on canvas. The work depicts two figures, a mother and son that now abide in different dimensions, due to the early death of the child. The son however assures his mother that despite their disparate worlds he is still with her. Influences on the production of the work are Early Renaissance artists such as Masaccio and Piero De La Francesca and late nineteenth, early twentieth century icons Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt and Edvard Munch. Maximum meaning with minimal form.

Jane Munro is a photographer born in 1956 in the UK with a BA Hons in Film and Photographic Arts from the Polytechnic of Central London in 1981 under the tutelage of Victor Burgin, where she was also part of the Polysnappers group with Jo Spence. Jane has worked globally as a photographer for more than forty years, but more recently has explored new directions with digitally created artworks drawing on her knowledge of the history of art and theory of visual communication.
