Two Strange Picnic II

Two Strange Picnic II by Insuk Kwon, Acrylic on canvas, 2024

Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, South Korea. Acrylic on canvas, 2024. 100x150cm.

This work offers a top-down, slightly detached view of my isolated life. The two spaces, divided by a thick wall, represent contrasting states: the ideal of connecting with others and the reality of solitude. The diagonal division of the wall introduces a sense of psychological tension, reflecting the strain that comes with shifts in reality. The empty upper section, set against the complexity of the lower area, becomes a space of stillness — a place for emotional release and quiet reflection amidst inner chaos.

I create work that explores the coexistence of hope and despair, expressing complex emotions through a surreal approach.
