Emilia Momen
Déjeuner sur l’herbe
Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, United Kingdom. Oil on Linen, 2025. 140x100x35cm.
A modern day version of Manet’s Dejuener sur L’Herbe. The females though are dressed, unlike the original, and the men are in far less dominating poses. The artist has deliberately shown men and women here as equal, rather than Manet’s implication that the women at the picnic were silent, naked figures invited purely to entertain the men. Momen has placed herself in the background with her friends at the front, who are Emmie McNair, Dhruv Duggal & Otis Kelly.
Emilia Momen, b 2001, is a figurative oil painter based in London. She studied fine art at Fine Arts Hampstead, Camberwell UAL and Charles Cecil in Florence.
