Can I Break The Pattern?
Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, Singapore. Oil on canvas, 2022. 90×70 cm.
Poem written by the artist for this artwork
My mind is so accustomed to life being a certain way It seeks comfort in what it knows And enjoys the predictability, the repetitive nature of what it calls life It fears random events because it cannot fit them into its mould of familiarity But can life ever be random? Just because a thing is unexpected does it mean that it is wrong? If I dropped all patterns from my thinking If I dropped all concepts of conformity Could I still see life as life Perhaps I may then see a broader balance A balance in apparent chaos A completeness in relative randomness
Deepa’s art practice – Emptiness Is Full’ includes abstract art, poetry and philanthropy. It is the embodiment of a life long investigation of human perception and suffering. Her art expresses her findings that all phenomena are essentially empty and also simultaneously fullness itself expressing as love and infinite potential. This divine paradox, the dance of time space appearances while realizing that there is truly neither time nor space, is the very essence of her work.
