I remember both the positive and challenging experiences, including my struggle with speech, which left me feeling isolated and dreading school due to my stammer. Amidst these difficulties, I found solace in art. It became my escape, offering a tranquil, peaceful state of serenity amidst life’s chaos and turmoil. Art allowed me to connect with others even when words failed. This painting captures those formative moments, as there’s no better way to share my story than through my own expression.

Chubby Onyesoro, born in 2000 in Lagos, Nigeria, is an emerging artist with a B.A. in Visual Arts from the University of Lagos and currently pursuing an M.A. at Coventry University. Known for emotive portraits of African figures in surreal settings, Chubby works with oil, charcoal, and mixed media. His art explores identity, cultural heritage, and emotion, incorporating elements of scarification and symbolism. His work celebrates African culture and reflects a personal connection to heritage.
