Vasily Klyukin

This sculpture from the ‘Ethers’ series is created in the artist’s unique technique ‘Demetricism’ of brass sheets and subtly balances on the edge of figurativeness and abstraction. As we know, Empedocles introduced the concept of four elements: earth, water, air and fire, and Aristotle added a fifth element – ether, which he called the “prime element” of which the heavens and celestial spheres are composed. Vasily Klyukin, on the other hand, puts a different meaning into this term, for him it is literally the man himself. It is no coincidence that the forms of ‘Breeze’ sculpture resemble shining airy female outlines that seem to dissolve and ‘mix’ with the other elements, creating a new form of existence in the process.

Vasily Klyukin (Born 1976, Russia) lives and works in the South of France. Klyukin has produced sculptures for important international solo exhibitions at The State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, The Arsenal Nord at the Venice Biennale, Kunstforum Vienna and the Osthaus Museum in Hagen, among others. Artist has a trademark technique ‘demetricism’ where he conjoins flat sheets of industrial material like laser-cut steel, brass or cardboard to form extraordinary and complex 3D sculptural works.
