Spanish House / Liverpool Spin by Tanya Morand, Acrylic ink, acrylic paint and oil paint on a wooden panel, 2021

Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, Canada. Acrylic ink, acrylic paint and oil paint on a wooden panel, 2021. 25.2×25.2cm.

My latest paintings are reminiscent of here and elsewhere. Manipulating and transforming architectural forms to create dreamlike scenes, I combine and connect cities to invent imaginary places. I develop these works based on 2 and 3 dimensional photo collage models which I then draw from and develop into paintings. This painting was first sketched in reverse with a pen and nib in acrylic ink and then transferred onto the wooden panel with acrylic medium and then painted in oils. This methodology allows me to make images that resonate with multiple experiences. The compositions often evoke an arabesque or a twisting ribbon of a building hovering over another space.

Tanya Morand’s works have been exhibited in contemporary art galleries, museums and art fairs, including ART EXPO (NYC), ART TORONTO, GRAND PRINT ART FAIR, PLURAL and PAPIER (Montreal). Her work is part of several public and private collections. Having exhibited at The Brita Prinz Gallery in Madrid, Spain in 2024, this exhibition was a prelude to the solo exhibition entitled “Gordon and Henri Go to Town” that will be presented at the Museum of Fine Arts of Sherbrooke in Canada in the fall of 2025.
