The Statue Bay
Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, United Kingdom. Digital Artwork on paper, 2025. 150x119cm.
The Statue Bay, part of the Empire project, was rendered using finetuned open-source AI models trained on over 40,000 35mm colour film slides from the 1940s to 1990s. These were procured, cleaned, scanned, and classified to create a highly customised AI checkpoint. This image blends two slides: one capturing the nighttime skyline of Hong Kong’s bustling harbor, the other featuring London’s Albert Memorial. The composition is powerful—it contrasts Britain’s colonial legacy, frozen in stone, with the vibrant energy of a former colony. It becomes a visual dialogue between past and present—an era left behind yet still present, as the future surges ahead.
