A moment of eternity

A moment of eternity by Olga Vynnyk, Photograph on aluminium, 2025

Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, Ukraine. Photograph on aluminium, 2025. 60x40cm.

Photography, by its very nature, is the capture of a fleeting instant. However, it also has the ability to evoke in the viewer a sense of timelessness, belonging to something greater and limitless. This paradox is expressed in my photograph. For centuries, the tree has been a symbol of longevity, strength, growth, continuity and cycles. Where there is both past and future, and where photography emphasizes the importance of living in time, meaning awareness.

Even after a forced relocation, even starting life from scratch, I remained true to my way of seeing: to perceive more than the eye can see. Photography, for me, is not a technical process — it is a philosophy of presence. A slow, attentive act of observing the world. Through the lens, I don’t just capture images — I search for truth, for that inner stillness in which life itself can be heard.
