Marcus Stewart
A Cadence in Time
Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, United States of America. Mixed media on board, 2025. 76.2×60.96cm.
Through this painting I wanted convey the concept of eluding one unfavorable circumstance only to run into another, and how it can mentally confine one into a seemingly inevitable condition to escape based on our own perspective. My conjecture is that we as a human race constantly fight with this cycle of behavior internally, externally, individually and as a whole. In the same vein the boy and girl are running away from the hands only to run into whatever is at the top of the clock. Good or Bad it is unknown but fear itself is enough for us to stay entrapped. This is a cadence we endure through time, and as time continues to unravel our reality becomes altered, consumed by fear, seemingly occluding resolution.
