Anima I

Anima I by Joaquín Lara Gómez, Oil on canvas, 2024

Selected for the 2025 London Art Biennale, Chile. Oil on canvas, 2024. 100x220cm.

This painting is part of a series of eight life-size oil portraits exploring humanity’s connection to the absolute. Set against a black background, each figure subtly dissolves into a circle behind the head., evoking our transience and our inevitable dissolution into the Source. Starting from images generated through AI (MidJourney), I reinterpret and transform them through painting, creating a dialogue between human intuition and technology. Like all pieces in the series, this work invites reflection on identity, impermanence, and our bond with the absolute.

I am an artist, programmer, and designer. My work centers on oil painting, sometimes blending traditional techniques with digital tools like artificial intelligence. Through my pieces, I explore the connection between the human figure and the universe, inviting the viewer to reflect on identity and transience.
