AFTER DAD recreates a childhood memory when my father was painting and I fell into his pot of paint. As a passionate gardener, he had beautiful illustrated gardening encyclopaedias. After his passing I felt compelled to depict this moment using them as a medium for a collage (800 pieces photocopied on faded recycled paper) to express my gratitude and farewells. I represent my father as if he was the one painting this garden, and inserted tiny reproductions of master painters he liked for their depiction of nature. Visible only to the attentive eye, they are like clues pointing to his journey. I deliberately represented my father and myself with white “empty” silhouettes and pencil marks: dream-like presences expressing continuity.

Helene was born and raised in Paris where she studied fine art and architecture. In 2013 she moved to Berlin to open an artist studio presenting cultural and literary events and subsequently developing her own art production, that she is currently carrying on in London where she moved back to. Helene’s artworks range from abstract to figurative and combine various scales and worlds to create a poetic space both imaginary and real and to describe the meaning and concept of time.
