Aryka Fyzee

There is something so special about this derelict little nook just off Carmichael Road that keeps getting my attention every time I pass it; this slice of visual art sculpted by sheer neglect and abandon. There it thrives, as passersby shun its beauty and life. The chaos of the barbed wire trying it’s best to contain the natural world – coupled with spots of light delicately highlighting its frenzy. The tree branches streaming across callously with untameable fervour, the foliage springing in enthusiastically as if to protest the ignorance of humanity, with all its shadows adding emphasis to the silent fury with which it lives. Totally paint worthy.

Aryka Fyzee is an artist that loves to play with light, space, and subsequently the subtle abstract forms that are created which provide her work with a sense of movement or a feeling of disorientation. She did her foundation year at Chelsea College of Art, and her Bachelor’s of Fine Art at the Slade School of Art (UCL). Aryka’s art exhibits have included shows at the Tao Art Gallery Mumbai, Kathiawadi city house, and the Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai. Since then she has continued to experiment with various genres while keeping light, space and illusions at the very core of her style of work. Aryka spent a significant part of her childhood in the wilderness of southern India, and consequently a lot of her current work explores themes of freedom, fluidity, breaking free from restraint, and sense of untamed defiance.
