Amedeo Del Giudice

One could speak endlessly about Amedeo’s tireless artistic activity, but a final reflection is due. Amedeo Del Giudice’s work is not only an exercise in iconographic invention; in the series “The Great Figures of History”, the artist pays deep attention to the cultural, religious, ethical, and political dimensions of these historical figures. Likewise, we must also recognise the importance of technique itself — his mastery of working surfaces with graphite, pastel, watercolour, pencil, silverpoint, and oil. His constant experimentation with various media — whatever the tool — is, in my view, the most authentic path to creating art.

I believe, and hope I am right, that Amedeo had no formal masters. He certainly admires the great classical artists, and perhaps also the great Mannerists. But above all, he is drawn to the search undertaken by another great uprooted revolutionary: Caravaggio — particularly in terms of plastic language and the use of light. Just anarchic enough, Amedeo resists the trends of contemporary figuration.
