Agnieszka Cereda

This large-scale oil painting draws inspiration from traditional blue and white pottery patterns and the rich visual language of folklore. A cotton dress with puffed sleeves and a velvet sash fills the composition, viewed from behind to emphasize form, texture, and decorative detail.The work was built up through a carefully considered process: the canvas primed with multiple layers, the earthy background applied using thinned oil paint for a translucent effect, and the dress constructed using classical “thick over thin” layering techniques. The combination of softness in the fabric and precision in the pattern reflects a deep reverence for both material and tradition.

Cereda works primarily in oil paints. Explores themes of femininity, nature, material texture often through detailed, large-scale compositions. Her work draws inspiration from traditional textiles, folkloric motifs, and the natural world.Cereda has previously exhibited at the Penn Street Gallery Autumn Exhibition. Her work has also been recognised in the Jackson’s Art Prize, where two of her paintings were included in the extended longlist.
