Aglaia Perrakis

Aglaia Perraki has studied the Fayum portraits extensively, which she admires for their expressive quality as well as their wise simplicity. In her paintings, she seeks the timeless truth in what is externally discernible, namely the inner essence of humanity as recorded in these gazes, characterized by a silent intensity and a promise of inner revelation. The painter uses egg tempera and acrylics to depict contemporary figures that affect her through their penetrating inner presence.Her task is to capture the gaze, different and common at the same time, the human gaze itself as a vehicle of the invisible: soul, spirit, immaterial and unfathomable human being. In the painting “Free Soul” based on a seatting of her cousin with special needs.

Aglaia Perraki (Chania, b. 1966)is a graduate of the Fine Arts Department of the Technical University of Crete (1998). In 2022 she was awarded the 1st audience prize at the International Portrait Biennale Festival of Tuzla . In 2022, she represented Greece at the Luxembourg Pinacothèque, where she received praise.The same year she was awarded by the Association of Cretan Scientists and the Association of Friends of Classical Music and Opera. She is based in Chania as a painter and writer.
