Haydee Laborin's soul speaks through her paintings. The emotive murmurs of the artist are softly impressed onto the fabric of her works. Series such as “Detrás de mi silencio” tell a story of a love that is impossible or could simply not withstand. The disenchantment of this star crossed love makes its way onto canvas through the contrasts and combinations of the various tones. The heartbreak is symbolized by a solitary heart beating desperately to stay alive, its roots shriveled from the loss of its love. A noble hummingbird seeks to revive the broken heart, Its attempts are fruitless against the inevitable.
The artist goes further yet to show the impossible nature of this love affair, the feble attempts to hang on, the hurt for what could have been and for what once was. She emphasizes the stark reality of a love lacking in courage, commitment and devotion. She portrays in vivid detail the crushing pain of a shattered heart which feels the angst of rejection. Each one of these broken hearts lives a separate life of excruciating pain, even when their bodies, minds and souls seek to reconnect. These tortured spirits are unable to forget the caresses that could have been, the staunched intimacy and the separateness of their divisive love.
